The Snappers won the first game in their best-of-three playoff series with Clinton by a score of 9-6 in 10 innings on Wednesday. Starter Derek De Young allowed just 1 run on 3 hits over 4 innings of work, while RHP Vince Voiro gave up 1 run in 2 innings of relief. The Snappers were down 2-0 until third baseman Renato Nunez hit a 2-run homer to tie the game in the top of the 7th inning. Second baseman Chris Bostick homered in the top of the 9th to give Beloit the lead, and catcher Nick Rickles hit a 2-run homer later in the inning to give the Snappers a 3-run lead heading into the bottom of the 9th. RHP Austin House then proceeded to give up 3 runs, 2 earned, in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game, with the tying run scoring on an error by second baseman Bostick. Beloit then loaded the bases in the top of the 10th, and Chris Bostick doubled to clear the bases and give the Snappers back the lead. House picked up the win despite allowing another run in the bottom of the 10th, and Beloit clinched Game #1 at Clinton and headed back home to try to win one of the next 2 games on the team’s home turf.

The Lake Monsters lost their rain-shortened season finale by a score of 5-2 after 5 innings on Wednesday. After spending the past month and a half on the disabled list, RHP Gregory Paulino started the game but went just 1 inning, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 3 and ended up taking the loss. After looking impressive in his first outing for Vermont, 18-year-old RHP Ronald Herrera gave up 4 runs on 7 hits over 2 2/3 innings of work, while RHP Cristhian Perez tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. The A’s 3rd overall pick in this year’s draft, shortstop Chad Pinder, hit a 2-run homer to account for all the Lake Monsters’ scoring in the game, while top draft pick Billy McKinney went 0 for 3 to finish with a .353 batting average in his 9 games for Vermont, and the Lake Monsters wrapped up their season with a record of 33-43.
