Starter Travis Banwart had a rough outing for the River Cats on Monday, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits over 4 1/3 innings to take his 5th loss. Catcher Ryan Ortiz collected 3 doubles, drove in a run and scored twice for Sacramento. LHP Justin Thomas, who had an opt-out clause in his contract, requested his release and was granted it by the A’s.

Third baseman B.A. Vollmuth had 2 hits, including a 2-run homer, while outfielders Dusty Robinson and Bobby Crocker both homered, and first baseman Max Muncy and catcher Bruce Maxwell contributed a pair of hits apiece for the Ports.

The A’s top draft pick, outfielder Billy McKinney, had a pair of hits, including a double. Starter Junior Mendez gave up 2 runs in 2 innings of work, while RHP Hunter Adkins allowed 3 unearned runs to take the loss.
