LHP Andrew Werner had a solid start for Sacramento on Saturday, allowing just 1 run while walking none and striking out 6 over 7 1/3 innings, but he still ended up taking the loss, since Sacramento was shut out and managed just 4 hits on the night. Jemile Weeks, who had 1 of those hits, made his debut in center field for the River Cats.

Starter Josh Bowman had a rough outing for Stockton on Saturday, allowing 8 runs on 9 hits over 5 2/3 innings to take the loss. Shortstop Addison Russell and designated hitter Bruce Maxwell both doubled and drove in a run for the Ports.

Starter Michael Ynoa allowed 3 runs, 2 earned, on 7 hits over 4 innings on Saturday, while RHP Andres Avila tossed 4 scoreless innings in relief to earn his 3rd win. With Beloit down by a run and the bases loaded in the bottom of the 8th inning, outfielder Ryan Mathews doubled to drive in the tying and go-ahead runs for the Snappers.

The A’s 6th overall pick in this year’s draft, RHP Dylan Covey, struck out 4 in 3 scoreless innings of work, while the team’s 13th overall pick, RHP Lou Trivino, allowed 2 runs, 1 earned, in 2 1/3 innings of relief to take the loss. Outfielder B.J. Boyd had a pair of hits and drove in Vermont’s only run of the game.

Outfielder Ben McQuown had 2 doubles, 2 walks, scored twice and stole a base, and second baseman Joe Bennie had 2 hits, including a triple, and drove in a pair of runs for the A’s.
