Things got off to a rocky start for Sonny Gray on Friday when he gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning. When all was said and done, he allowed 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 7 over 6 innings to take his 5th loss. Third baseman Scott Moore smashed his 10th home run, while second baseman Grant Green collected a pair of doubles for the River Cats.

Starter Sean Murphy turned in an impressive outing for Midland, striking out 8 over 6 scoreless innings to earn his 5th win on Friday. Outfielder Chad Oberacker doubled, tripled and drove in 3 runs, while outfielder D’Arby Myers went 5 for 5 and drove in a pair for the RockHounds.

Starter Shaeffer Hall allowed 3 runs, just 1 earned, over 6 innings to take his 2nd loss, while RHP Tucker Healy tossed a scoreless 7th in his debut with the Ports. Outfielders Dusty Robinson and Rashun Dixon both clubbed home runs with no one on to account for all Stockton’s scoring on the night.

Starter Vince Voiro had shaky outing for the Snappers, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits over 5 innings on Friday. RHP Derek De Young was solid in relief, allowing just 1 unearned run on 1 hit over 4 innings of work, but that 1 unearned run was enough to earn him the loss. Third baseman Renato Nunez doubled and drove in 2 of the Snappers’ 3 runs on the night.

The A’s 19th overall pick in this year’s draft, outfielder Jaycob Brugman, had a big night, clubbing a grand slam to account for all of Vermont’s runs on Friday. Starter Brent Powers struck out 6 in 4 scoreless innings, while RHP Derek Hansen allowed 1 unearned run in 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn his 1st win, and LHP Omar Duran struck out 5 over 2 1/3 scoreless innings to pick up his 1st save for Vermont.

First Baseman Ryan Huck

First baseman Ryan Huck had his second straight big night at the plate, collecting 3 hits, including a double, and driving in 2 runs, while the A’s 15th overall pick in this year’s draft, outfielder Justin Higley, had 2 hits, including a home run, and 1st-round pick, outfielder Billy McKinney, had a pair of hits, drove in a run and scored twice for the A’s. Starter Carlos Navas had a rough outing, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits over 4 innings, but RHP Jensi Peralta struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win, and RHPs Sam Bragg and Junior Mendez each contributed a scoreless inning in their first appearance since being drafted by the A’s.
