It wasn’t a good night for the River Cats. Starter Bruce Billings had his worst outing in over a month, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits over 3 1/3 innings to take his 4th loss, while RHP Darren Byrd surrendered another 4 runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief. Third baseman Scott Moore drew 3 walks to reach base in all but 1 of his plate appearances, but the River Cats totaled just 3 hits on the night, including doubles by first baseman Daric Barton and outfielder Michael Taylor, who now holds the River Cats’ all-time hit record with 402.

With the bases loaded and 2 outs and the game tied in the top of the 5th inning, first baseman Jake Goebbert clubbed a grand slam to give the RockHounds a lead they would never relinquish. Starter Murphy Smith had another solid outing, allowing 3 runs over 7 innings to earn his 6th win for the Hounds.

Starter Deyvi Jimenez didn’t fare much better for Vermont on Tuesday than he did for much of the season with Stockton, allowing 3 runs over just 4 2/3 innings to take his 1st loss with the Lake Monsters. Outfielder B.J. Boyd and shortstop Melvin Mercedes each collected 3 hits and drove in a run, while outfielder Kelvin Rojas had 2 hits, drove in 2 runs and made 2 errors. Meanwhile, RHP David Mota and LHP Omar Duran have both been reassigned to Vermont from Stockton.
