With the bases loaded and 2 outs and Sacramento down by a run in the bottom of the 5th inning, outfielder Michael Taylor doubled to clear the bases and give the River Cats a lead they would never relinquish. Catcher Stephen Vogt collected a pair of doubles and drove in another 2 runs for the River Cats in the 8th. Starter Sonny Gray allowed 3 runs on 8 hits while walking 1 and striking out 6 over 6 innings to earn his 7th win, while RHP Kyler Newby tossed a scoreless 7th in his debut with the Cats, and RHP Brian Gordon struck out a pair in the 9th to pick up his 3rd save.

RockHounds’ hitters had a big day at the plate on Sunday, with the team totaling 6 home runs and everyone in the lineup collecting at least 1 hit. Outfielder Jake Goebbert led the hit parade with a home run, a double and a single and drove in a pair of runs, while shortstop Darwin Perez and second baseman Dusty Coleman both homered and drove in 3 runs, and third baseman Vinnie Catricala collected his 1st home run for the RockHounds. Starter Sean Murphy allowed 4 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings to pick up his 4th win for Midland. And he’ll soon be joined in the RockHounds’ rotation by his former teammate Drew Granier, who has been promoted to Midland.

Starter Josh Bowman returned from the disabled list to have his best outing of the season for the Ports, allowing just 3 hits and striking out 5 over 5 scoreless innings to earn his 1st win, while LHP Jake Brown got the final 2 outs in the 9th for his 1st save. Shortstop Addison Russell had a pair of hits, including his 19th double, to raise his average to .249 just before the California League All-Star break. Meanwhile, Stockton’s All-Star pitcher, Drew Granier, has been promoted to Midland after a stellar first half. RHP Deyvi Jimenez was sent down to Vermont to make room for Bowman on the roster. Three of Beloit’s top pitchers have been added to the Ports’ pitching staff for the second half – RHPs Raul Alcantara, Ryan Dull and Tucker Healy. And two more Ports’ pitchers will have to be removed to make room on the roster for their arrival.

Second Baseman Chris Bostick

(3 for 4 / 3 RBIs)

 

Second baseman Chris Bostick had another big night for Beloit, collecting 3 hits and driving in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th inning to give the Snappers a walk-off win to clinch the first-half Midwest League Western Division title on Sunday. Third baseman Renato Nunez doubled in a pair of runs in the 5th but also committed his 20th error of the season. Starter Brent Powers allowed a pair of runs in just 3 innings of work, while RHP Andres Avila gave up 4 runs in 1 1/3 innings of relief, and RHP Tyler Vail tossed a scoreless 9th to pick up his 3rd win. The Snappers’ pitching staff will have to do without some key members in the second half with the promotions of RHPs Raul Alcantara, Ryan Dull and Tucker Healy to Stockton.

 

In Other News…

The Class-A short-season Vermont Lake Monsters will begin play on Monday. And the team will feature a number of this year’s top college-level draftees for the A’s, such as infielder Chad Pinder, outfielders Tyler Marincov and Jaycob Brugman, and pitchers Dylan Covey, Matt Stalcup, Jerad Grundy and Lou Trivino, along with some of 2012’s most promising picks like outfielder B.J. Boyd and infielder Melvin Mercedes.

I mean, I dont want to tell you how to run your blog, but what if you added something to maybe get peoples attention?
