Shortstop Andy Parrino slugged a grand slam, his second home run in the last two days, in the bottom of the 4th inning on Thursday to provide the River Cats with a one-run lead. But starter Travis Banwart surrendered 6 runs, 4 earned, in 5 2/3 innings of work and took his 2nd loss. A’s outfielder Josh Reddick, serving as the designated hitter for the night, went 0 for 4 in his third rehab appearance with the River Cats.

Starter Arnold Leon allowed 4 runs, 3 earned, in 6 innings of work and left the game with the RockHounds down by a pair of runs. Catcher David Freitas led off the 7th inning with his 7th home run to bring the RockHounds within a run. Later in that same inning, outfielder D’Arby Myers drove in the tying run with the third of his 3 hits on the night. Then with the game tied and 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th, outfielder Conner Crumbliss singled in the game-winning run to make a winner of RHP Kyler Newby who tossed 2 scoreless innings of relief for the RockHounds.

New starter Shaeffer Hall struck out 4 over 3 scoreless innings and left with a 2-run lead, but the Ports bullpen couldn’t make it hold up. RHP Blake Hassebrock allowed 3 runs, RHP Pedro Vidal gave up a pair of runs, and RHP Jose Macias surrendered the winning run in the bottom of the 8th to take his 2nd loss. First baseman Max Muncy had 2 hits and drove in a pair of runs, while outfielder Bobby Crocker had 2 hits, including a triple, stole a pair of bases and scored 3 times for the Ports.

RHP Dakota Bacus had a rare rough outing for the Snappers on Thursday, allowing 6 runs in just 2 innings of work to take his 2nd loss, while RHP Austin House tossed 5 scoreless innings in relief. Second baseman Chris Bostick belted a grand slam in the 9th inning, his second home run in the last 2 days, but it was too little too late for Beloit.

  1. and done, but hes still very very raw .i already think Russell is a betetr prospect than Baez .i give Baez about a 5% chance of sticking at SS and if and when he mones to 3B, he will lose a lot of his value .not saying he wont still be valuable, but the same numbers at 3B and SS dont even compare in terms of value all the scouting reports ive read on Russell suggest that he was the steal of the 1st round and that he was much more polished than was expected .ive even seen ETA’s for him ranging anywhere from September of 2013 to June 2015. interested to hear your take, as im always open to changing my opinion on prospects. i get that Baez has that rare monster raw power, but hes got A LOT of work to do and will most likely get exploited by pitchers at higher levels who can abuse a guy they know has extremely poor plate discipline. then again, he could hit one 480 feet in his next AB.
