In his first game with the team since being acquired from the Cubs for Anthony Recker, catcher Blake Lalli collected 3 hits, including a home run. Starter Bruce Billings allowed 2 runs over 6 innings of work, while right-hander Tyson Ross picked up the win with 2 innings in relief. The River Cats will face the PCL Northern Divison winner in the first round of the playoffs starting at Raley Field in Sacramento on September 5th.

Starter Shawn Haviland had a shaky outing, allowing 5 runs, 4 earned, on 9 hits over just 4 innings of work, while left-hander Beau Jones picked up the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief.

Stockton came back to tie the game on first baseman Tony Thompson’s 2-run homer in the top of the 7th inning, but right-hander Jonathan Joseph surrendered 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th to turn over the lead and take the loss.

Worth Noting: After struggling his first time out, A.J. Griffin looked much more impressive in his second rehab start for Sacramento on Monday, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits over 5 innings to earn the win, and it now seems likely that the right-hander will end up re-joining the A’s rotation before the end of the week. In his first game with the River Cats, right-hander Jesse Chavez gave up just 1 run in 4 innings in relief to earn the save. Catcher Jason Jaramillo had 2 hits and drove in 3 runs, while second baseman Jemile Weeks doubled and drove in 2 runs in the win. In other news, the A’s traded long-time Sacramento catcher Anthony Recker to the Cubs for 29-year-old catcher/first baseman Blake Lalli, who could be expected to be added to the River Cats roster soon.

Catcher David Freitas doubled in Midland’s only other run of the game in the 4th. Starter Murphy Smith had a solid outing, allowing just 1 run on 4 hits over 6 innings of work, but it was infielder Leonardo Gil who picked up the win by pitching 1 perfect inning in relief.

In his first start back at Sacramento, right-hander Dan Straily had an impressive outing, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 4 over 5 innings of work. Brandon Inge doubled in a run in his first rehab game with the River Cats. And in other news, second baseman Jemile Weeks took batting practice with the team on Thursday, but there’s no word yet on when he’s expected to make his first appearance with the Cats.
