Worth Noting: Second baseman Eric Sogard launced his 2nd home run of the game in the 13th inning to give the River Cats the win in extra innings on Tuesday night. Outfielders Collin Cowgill and Michael Taylor both homered in the win as well. Starter Tyson Ross allowed 5 runs, just 2 earned, and struck out 8 over 5 1/3 innings, while right-hander Travis Banwart picked up the win with 2 perfect innings in relief.

Worth Noting: Starter Murphy Smith had a rough outing, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and 5 walks in just 3 2/3 innings to take his 6th loss. Shortstop Dusty Coleman slugged his 8th home run in the loss.

Worth Noting: Outfielder Josh Whitaker blasted a game-winning 3-run homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Ports the victory in extra innings and snap the team’s 9-game losing streak, while third baseman B.A. Vollmuth clubbed a 2-run homer to tie the game in the bottom of the 10th. Starter Josh Bowman struck out 6 in 6 scoreless innings, while right-hander T.J. Walz picked up the win with 1 scoreless inning in relief.

Worth Noting: Vermont dropped an 18-inning marathon to Connecticut on Tuesday night. Starter Brent Powers allowed 2 runs, just 1 earned, in 4 1/3 innings of work. Right-hander Kurt Wunderlich struck out 7 in 4 2/3 scoreless innings of relief to help keep Vermont in the game, but right-hander Sam Roberts allowed a 2-run homer, after a 2-out error by third baseman Chad Lewis, in the bottom of the 18th inning to take the loss. Outfielder John Wooten collected 3 hits in the loss.

Worth Noting: First baseman Matt Olson and third baseman Daniel Robertson both collected 3 hits, including a double, while Olson drove in 3 runs and Robertson drove in 2. Starter Jose Torres allowed 4 runs, just 2 earned, while striking out 8 over 5 innings to earn the win.

  1. I was at the Vermont game last night. Sam Roberts is an infielder, not a pitcher as far as I know. Maybe he pitched in high school or something, but I’m pretty sure he’s just an infielder for Vermont. They should have won that game. Oh well. They did make some great defensive plays despite the 2 costly errors (CF Vertigan made several plays, SS Solano made a nice play running/diving into LF, and RF Wooten made a few plays as well).
